Well I slept great for a change but something peculiar happened. I just kept going back to sleep. I woke up about 4:30 AM, which at this time of year (summer,) and since Melbourne is located at the southern tip of the continent, sunrise happens pretty early in the morning. I decide to go back to sleep after reading for about 20 minutes. This time I don't wake up until about 10AM, but I doze off again and wake up about 2:30PM. Isn't there some type of sleeping sickness from mosquito bites..maybe I got one of those in the Amazon in Brazil or on the Serengeti in Kenya! I force myself up and take a shower that finally gets me up and going. I decide to do a walk about today so I go to the Docklands area where my office was located. Kaplan has now consolidated the Carrick Colleges and Kaplan Business College to the KBC name. Carrick was such a bad deal it was hard to believe that they even bought the operation, since there was really no serious due diligence completed. That's what my team from US found out when we arrived. We never even got a chance to implement our business plan before it was decided to consolidate Europe and Asia-Pacific into one operation. But, business happens and you move on.
I also took the tram, which is the major transportation system in Melbourne (goes everywhere and cheaply), to the Yarra River area which is a long stretch of businesses, entertainment and restaurant venues. The Crown Casino is located here and I decide to take a stroll inside, since this is where I played many a poker game at the nightly 7PM game. No poker, but I do play a little 21 and proceeded to win about $300AU in about an hour.
Its already 6PM, such a short day, Mr. Lazy. I find an interesting place for dinner called the Boney. I'm not sure of the significance of the name, but the interior of the place is small but looks like a cave. It has great music that isn't overwhelming, one of my pet peeves. I will walk out of a restaurant if the music is so loud that the wait person can't hear your order. The menu is a list of what I call "comfort food" and I order a red snapper sandwich and potato skins. The sandwich is simple with a very fresh warmed bun with tomato, lettuce and a light tartar sauce. The potato skins are scrumptious with a crispy outside and with a spicy red mayo sauce. The well tatted waitperson suggests a summer ale. I very good $20AD meal. I head back the condo and hit the bed about 9:30PM.
