October 10, 2014 Copacabana Beach, Rio, Brazil.
Made it to Rio without a hitch. Met a guy Mike in customs that was from my old neighborhood on the east side of Detroit. Come to the other side of the globe to run into a guy that is from Detroit.
Traffic is really bad here. It took over an hour to from airport to apartment where Im staying. It's funny on these AIRbNb apartment deals. The picture they show on their site, in this case, must have been taking 20 years ago. The place is okay, its clean, but very warn and outdated. Let's see hot water doesn't work, battery dead in remote, gas stove doesn't fire up and frig. needs badly defrosting, children are yelling, dogs barking and someone is cooking with curry. Im a little jet lagged and didn't get much sleep on the plane. So going to take a nap then wonder out to the beach.
I work up from my nap and realized the gentleman that bought up my bags, had a extra carry-on shopping bag. It has a few gifts and a large bottle of Remy Martin. Since I shared a cab with my three Detroit buddies I met from Customs at the airport, I must have gotten one of their shopping bags. I'm pretty sure one of them is going to be looking for his $100 bottle of Remy.
Im staying a block from Copacabana Beach, so I took a stroll. Lots of bodies on the beach. Every woman no matter age and size is wearing a thong. Yuck. The young men are wearing surfer shorts, but seems every man over 30 is wearing a speedo, except me. Double Yuck. Cellulite reduction doctors have a lot of client potential here. Seems no one here has a vanity problem.
There is a beautiful view of the mountains on the beach. I hadn't realized the Rio was surrounded by such large mountains. I can see the famous Christ the Redeemer high on one of the tallest mountains. I also noticed that very few people have a cell phone stuck to their ear, unlike in the states.
