October 12, 2014 Copacabana Beach, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
I was awaken by the smell of curry, even for breakfast? Can wait to get out of this place. The owner of the place left me an email yesterday and said she was going to send someone over to fix things. Well they never showed up, so I sent her a note to that effect. She said they wouldn't be able to get there until Monday. Im leaving on Monday. I told her that I was canceling the two days for next week, when I get back from Manaus, Amazon River. She said for the noise I should find some ear plugs. Really?? Also that she could not refund since i was beyond the refund period. Well I plan on calling AIRbnb and see what they can do.
Well its Sunday, and Im missing NFL games. Usual ritual is to have Bronce and his family come over for lunch and watch the games. Beth comes too sometimes. So I google: NFL, bar, Copacabana Beach. Lo and behold an Irish Bar comes up not far from my place. It didn't open until noon, so decided to find a place to eat breakfast. Actually found a pizza place and had probably one of the best pizzas Ive ever had...and Im not a real pizza eater. Topped it off with a local beer called Brahma.
So after finishing my breakfast, I ventured over to the Irish Bar to watch the Lions game on early then the chargers game after that. I walked in the place expecting a couple of old Irish types running the place. I walk in and their are these two guys in their 40's with Detroit Tiger baseball caps. They OWN the place. place had just opened for the day, so we were able to sit and chat and talk about Detroit and all the places we remember: Tiger Stadium, Lafayette Coney Island, Bob-Lo, Cobo Hall, trips to Windsor, Belle isle, Pewbick Pottery, Roostertail Club, Cinderella Theater, Carls Chop House and Metropolitan Beach. It was a nice conversation talk old times and places in Detroit. Time for the game. Watched both games and found time to put down one of the thickest and juiciest cheeseburger Ive ever had. A good day both teams won. They guys told me about a Gelato place nearby so off I went. Good stuff, I had a double dip, Brazilian chocolate and vanilla carmel. Okay getting late, walking home. This place is deserted at night and a little scary on streets. Next time its going to be Ipanema.
