This being the last day in Nairobi, and its still raining off and on, I'm curious about an incident that happen just over a year ago that just rocked the foundation of the friendliness that the Kenyan people are known.

Four or more terrorists went into a major local mall and killed over 60 persons before destroying the mall and having themselves killed. The incident devastated a country that has always welcomed people in with open arms.
The tourism business has suffered a double whammy with this incident and the current Ebola "scare". Even though Kenya is far from the center of this terrible scourge, tourists are avoiding Nairobi/Kenya in the thousands, thinking this country could have the same problem. My safari guide, Lucky, puts it in perspective. Last year at this time the company that he works, had 5 safari vans that seat up to 8 people, are now luck to get up to 2-3 tourists. I did go to the site of this killing and there was an uneasy feeling of the site area. I went to the monument that is dedicated to the victims, including Americans, at the mall entrance. It was a bit surreal with parents, mothers, and fathers, weeping at the loss of their innocent loved ones at this site. It reminded me of the feeling of pause I had at the Vietnam War Memorial in DC. The mall is still in disarray, and there is no prospect of it being rebuilt.
It is still 2PM and my flight is scheduled to leave at 11PM. I remember seeing there was an IMAX in Nairobi, so I had the cab drop me off at the movie theatre near my hotel. I was really wanting to see the new Matthew McConaughey's movie Interstellar and didn't want to wait until I got back to the states. I paid the $1000KS that included popcorn and a Sprite. It was a long movie with lots of subplots. But the sound mix was too loud and several times you couldn't make out what the characters were saying. All and all a good thumbs up. I finish the movie and cab it to the hotel.
I pick up my big bags, left in storage for the day at the Hilton. Traffic is bad at 6:30 PM but it takes us over 1 1/2 hours to take a 13 mile trip.
We get to the airport...late going out until 12:20 AM. Okay things happen. We get on board, we push off from the gate, rev the engines up and then the intercom. "sorry a we have a technical difficulty" and so we return to the gate. Forty-five minutes later we are off again, now it is a monsoon as we take off.
